The Seen and The Unseen

“The unexamined life is not worth living” — Socrates

because life is too beautiful to just not be a fraction of mundane experiences.

Our system has conditioned us so much that we forget to think that there exists a life beyond the mundane things in our life. And on the whole journey, we miss seeing how interconnected we are to the world inside and outside us. We are so much caught up in our own bubble that when it bursts-

We realize that ignorance was bliss and we have a privilege to get back to not caring if it is certainly not causing us damage.

We see that we were in a trap that we didn’t realize we were a part of but, now have the choice to go forward and change.

But when we are put in that uncomfortable zone, we realize that there were so many hidden parts in us that we didn’t realize that we had but also lays in front of us an opportunity to see who I can be beyond my comfort. We always calculate, if it worth giving a shot to go beyond our comfort? But we will truly never know unless we do it and see the possibility of who can we be?

As quoted by Heraclitus, “One cannot step twice in the same river”. We are experiencing and growing every moment to becoming a different person than seconds before. Our world has taught us to strive, but in the process, we forget to prioritize the ‘Being’ in the ‘Doing’. It is important to live the journey as we tend to set new goals with the intention to achieve it and forget to enjoy the process. In ‘Being’ it is an opportunity for us to expand our ‘Doing’ beyond our immediate circle and to serve something larger than ourselves- humanity and the environment. Looking through the lens of altruism makes us realize that we can never be short of giving and find the opportunity to express our values and hope that we have to offer. It requires strength to give, as we realize that we are a half glass full and can fill the half glass empty. As Protagoras quotes, “Man is the measure of all things”. We become our own judge to see the possibilities or see the lack of it. It is a privilege to see that we are part of the system that is either scattered, broken, or degenerating but all it needs is a leader who can be an example to show that things can be done in a new way. Just by doing our bit in the smallest way possible we can lay a path to inspire others to see that it was possible all this while and all it needed was to see the potential and an example who chose the path.

It has been difficult mining inspiration during the pandemic but pausing for a while made us see the inspiration that life has to offer. To live in a world with so much diversity that is beyond our capacity to grasp is also an opportunity to wonder and explore newness, depth to see unity through multiplicity. It has been difficult. Every day is an opportunity to understand the diversity in oneself, family, friends, environment, and the world that can be seen and also how it is a journey beyond the seen to question and experience the unseen that yet has the potential to be explored. And with the matter of investigation, we will understand that- “I know that I know nothing” as quoted by Plato because life is too beautiful to just not be a fraction of mundane experiences.

As we are living in an uncertain world, can we explore the possibility of seeing the seen and building a need to explore the unseen?

Can we ourselves be an inspiration to oneself and an example to others to make this world a better place to leave behind?
